Tonight it’s so cold
The reason for the fire
First of the season…

Its smell reminds me of the bonfires
That began the season
Of our high school football games

Covering plants
So they won’t freeze
I think winter will come soon
Not just a tease …

The wood in our fireplace
Is crackling so loud
And the flames are flickering  Warming our home

Outside leaves are falling
As the wind blows…
But tonight this fire
Is warming our toes…
