My grandsons are in college
I now understand about
My mother always saying
The days are long
But the years are short
Remembering how
Anxiously I waited for
Certain days to come
Growing up
And how quick they passed
Once they arrived
Now just distant memories
As the years are fading
Remembering my own
Children growing up
And now our youngest
Grandson is 14
And I will never rock
A baby of mine again
The years are only memories
Of hundred of diaper changes
Many ball games and band
Concerts
Heartbreaks
Now they aren’t really
In my relm but a generation
Beyond me that I no
Longer have hands on
As my 70s turn into 80s
They will see and feel
Us leave and become
Just a memory of
A time gone by…
